Lakhamandal is a small village located in the Uttarkashi district of the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is known for its historical and mythological significance and is a destination that attracts pilgrims, history enthusiasts, and trekkers. 

  • Mythological Significance: Lakhamandal is believed to be the place where the Kauravas from the Indian epic Mahabharata constructed a lac (wax) house to kill the Pandavas. According to local legend, this is the site where Duryodhana attempted to kill the Pandavas by setting fire to a house made of wax, but they escaped. The name "Lakhamandal" is derived from this legend, where "Laksha" means lac, and "Mandal" means an enclosure.
  • Temples: The village is home to ancient temples, with some of them dating back to the 8th century. The Lakhamandal region has several temples dedicated to various deities, including Shiva, Parvati, and the Pandavas. The main temple, the Lakhamandal Temple, is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is believed to have a naturally occurring shivalinga.
