Jim Corbett, whose full name is Edward James Corbett, was a British-Indian hunter, tracker, conservationist, and author. He was born on July 25, 1875, in Nainital, in the present-day Indian state of Uttarakhand, and he passed away on April 19, 1955, in Nyeri, Kenya.

Corbett was known for his remarkable skills in tracking and hunting man-eating tigers and leopards in the Kumaon region of North India. During the early 20th century, several villages in the region were plagued by man-eating big cats, and Corbett gained fame for successfully hunting a number of these animals that had become a threat to human life.

In addition to his hunting exploits, Jim Corbett was a strong advocate for wildlife conservation. As he became more aware of the declining numbers of tigers and other wildlife due to hunting and habitat loss, he transitioned from being a hunter to a conservationist. He played a key role in the establishment of the first national park in India, the Hailey National Park (now Jim Corbett National Park), which was established in 1936 in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand. This park served as a haven for Bengal tigers and other wildlife.
