The Vaishno Devi Yatra is one of the most revered and popular pilgrimages in India, attracting millions of devotees each year. The pilgrimage takes place in the Trikuta Mountains of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir, where the sacred cave of Mata Vaishno Devi is situated. 

  • Distance and Route:

The total distance of the Yatra is around 13.5 kilometers (8.4 miles) from Katra to the Bhawan (the temple at the cave). Pilgrims can reach the cave by trekking, riding ponies, or using palanquins.

  • Trekking and Facilities:

The trek to the cave involves a steep climb and includes well-maintained paths, stairs, and resting points. The Vaishno Devi Shrine Board provides various facilities along the route, including accommodation, medical aid, and refreshment stalls.

  • Darshan at the Cave:

The cave itself is narrow and located at an altitude of approximately 5,200 feet. Pilgrims have to crawl to enter the cave and seek the blessings of Mata Vaishno Devi.Bhawan: The Bhawan at the cave is the main shrine where the deity's idol is housed. Devotees offer prayers and perform rituals here.

The journey is not just a physical one but also considered a spiritual and transformative experience. Many pilgrims undertake the Yatra to seek blessings, fulfill vows, or express gratitude. The Yatra takes place throughout the year, but the number of pilgrims increases during peak seasons, such as Navaratri and other festive periods.

  • Registration:

Pilgrims are required to register for the Yatra, and the Vaishno Devi Shrine Board manages the pilgrimage to ensure the safety and well-being of the devotees.

  • Aarti and Bhajans:

The holy cave is adorned with lights, and aarti (religious rituals) and bhajans (devotional songs) are performed regularly.
